Summer has come and gone, and the time for fall fashion is now.
In addition to the traditional outfit picks that come back year after year, there are a whole host of new fall trends, according to fashion stylist Laura Pritchard.
“Tailoring has earned its place on every runway every season,” Pritchard told GMA. “Last fall we saw the popular pant suit, but it has since been replaced by plaid, houndstooth and tweed miniskirt suits – which rule the catwalks and streets.”
She added: “We’ve also seen the tried and tested suit get a makeover with extended toppers known as ‘suit coats’. It’s a look meant to be worn as a full layered look to stand out.”
Beforehand, Pritchard walks us through some of the standout fall trends to add to your mood board this season.

While many of us have come to know and love the term athleisure, Pritchard says it’s all about athluxury now.
“The sporty aesthetic is chicer than ever,” she said. “Hero sports brands have teamed up with luxury fashion houses and it seems the collaborations aren’t quite out there just yet. This comfy trend is easy to pull off.

Tailored oversized blazers
“Designers have brought back the oversized, tailored blazer, but reworked the trend with extremely bold shoulders,” Pritchard said.
While this look may seem like a tricky piece to some, she said it’s actually more versatile than you think.
Stylist tip: Pair this look with slim linings to balance the extreme proportions. A basic rule to keep in mind: if an oversized garment takes up half your body, keep it slim on the other half.
Another trick is to head to the men’s department to find a massive selection of oversized blazers rather than shelling out big bucks for some of this season’s latest women’s designer picks.
Pritchard also recommends adding extra shoulder pads to give the shoulder a little more height.

Vibrant highlighter-like colors were all over the runways this fall, and there’s a good chance we’ll continue to see them hitting stores everywhere. “While it’s not for color minimalists, wearing the bold head-to-toe hue as seen on red carpets and runways is sure to turn heads and keep you looking fresh in the colder months,” Pritchard said.

Classic white tanks
Classic white tank tops are making a big comeback and have been spotted at designer fairs from Prada to Bottega Veneta. “While the staple never really left our closets, it’s reliving a pivotal moment and being reimagined,” Pritchard said.
Several designers paired the wardrobe staple with everything from casual denim to over-the-top evening skirts.
Pritchard said metallics are the star of many designer fall collections.
“From dresses and blouses to boots and handbags, these sparkling gold, silver and black tones will rule our closets this fall,” she said. “Not only is this trend for fancy Christmas parties, but it can also be easily worn casual with your trusty t-shirt and denim.”
